Importantly, persistence of high p21 levels in HGPS cells was associated with cellular senescence, as demonstrated by the significant increase in the percentage of beta‐galactosidase‐positive cells observed in HGPS, but not in control cultures, upon stress recovery and by the increase in senescence‐associated heterochromatin foci (SAHF) , which were detectable in almost all beta‐galactosidase‐positive HGPS cells. |
