Exposure of both, early-passage (20 PDL) and late-passage (52 PDL) HUVEC cultures to DON strongly inhibited cell proliferation. Furthermore, exposure of early-passage HUVEC to the glutaminase inhibitor induced phenotypic alterations typically of premature senescence within two passages,The percentage of SA-β gal positive cells increased from 7.4 ± 1% to 25 ± 3% in young HUVEC exposed to 10 lM DON, and reached 66.0 ± 4% when 40 lM DON was used. |
